Management Development Programme 2019

To help support businesses and their managers, we have developed a management development programme consisting of a series of “How To…” workshops. These workshops provide the knowledge and skills to manage the typical day to day HR issues successfully,
The content and of each workshop will reflect the “real business world” and will tap into our many years of experience as “business focused” HR practitioners. The duration of the workshops will be 2 1⁄2 hours each. A brief description of each HR Workshop can be seen below.

How to recruit and select

In today’s competitive marketplace, businesses need to make sure they get value for money. Employing the wrong person for a role is a costly mistake to make which is why it’s even more critical to invest in the recruitment process up front – much like doing extensive and high-quality due diligence before a business deal. This workshop will take you through a systematic approach to the two distinct phases of recruitment and selection.

How to manage misconduct

Managing misconduct, in other words, unacceptable behaviour is not something managers generally think about when recruiting staff. However, managers need to be prepared should things not go to plan. Often, a quiet word is enough to sort out a problem over an issue regarding conduct, but if that doesn’t work, you need to take action.
This workshop will take you through typical examples of misconduct (persistent lateness; breach of company rules; unauthorised absence) and how this should be managed informally in the first instance, through to more formal action, e.g. a written warning or even dismissal.

How to manage performance

Have you ever been frustrated by the fact that some staff never seem to do what you want them to do? Well, if you’re going to drive performance, you have first to measure it. This workshop is aimed at helping you to manage underperformance and performance management more strategically. This will include translating your organisational goals into measurable objectives staff understand and are motivated to achieving.

How to manage sickness absence

According to the HSE 31.2 million, working days are lost due to sickness absence in the UK in 2016/17 – on average each person took 17 days off work. This workshop is aimed at helping you manage both long and short term absence and the implications of the Equality Act when doing so. It will also provide a strategy for monitoring sickness absence and the role of Occupational Health within that process, in addition to giving you the benefit of our many years of experience dealing with such issues.
